.opinion | Why Clone when you can CREATE life?
Does everyone remember the whole big deal about cloning? I remember just about when the first sheep, Dolly, was cloned you had all these religious fanatics going crazy over it…. “You can’t duplicate a life form”, “Only God can create life”, etc. Well, here’s a little something that’s going to make these fanatics just crazy, but make the more open-minded of us fascinated. Turns out that scientists have developed a method, and succeeded in it, to CREATE life.
Craig Venter, a US geneticist has found a way to create DNA from scratch, and incorporate it into a cell and succeeded. What this means is that life can be created from scratch and engineered in such a way as to benefit humanity.
What do people have to say to that? Are humans trying to be God, or are we just advancing our knowledge and science? Some would call is a “breakthrough in biology”, whereas others would think differently about it. Crazy stuff. Personally I’m a pretty open-minded person, and I like to think that such a breakthrough in biology is awesome and can even be great to solve out whole problem with renewable resources and energy sources and what not.
